		"The Barrel Racer" by Sue Garman 60" X 72" From Sue: I love the excitement of Houston's Livestock Show and Rodeo, which is held every spring. I was invited to enter a quilt in the rodeo's judged quilt show, and I decided to actually do a 'rodeo' quilt instead of the usual traditional quilt. I wanted to bring some focus to women in the rodeo, and barrel racing is one of the few events in which women can compete. In this quilt, the rider is racing around the red, white and blue barrel and will then run headlong to the finish line. The quilt won Best of Show, Judge's Choice, and Viewer's Choice. Hooray for women in the rodeo! This exciting quilt is machine pieced and needle turn appliqué using my skin tone fabrics for the rider. I just love the sense of movement Sue captured. You almost want to jump out of the way!
