"Blue Emphasis"

The top picture shows the quilt before quilting.
  Cassie's class mates said it looked like a stained
glass quilt, so she put it up in front of a window
and snapped the picture.  The bottom picture
is the finished quilt.

She used 2 gradations, BL3 Navy and
GY1 Mottled Black, to demonstrate 'vanishing
boundaries' - putting 2 colors of the same value
side by side to create a grayish-blue overall
color (squinting eyes helps to see this).

Cassie explains the theory: "Using points of
emphasis gradating away from themselves,
 which are unified by a single visual pathway
that gradates within itself."

I think it is spectacular.  And, I am continually
amazed of what one can do with 2 simple
gradations.
